The Duke Blue Devils will be the talk of the college football world heading into conference championship game Saturday this weekend. If they can knock off No. 17 Virginia, the likely scenario is that we get two Group of 6 teams in the College Football Playoff.
Those two G6 teams are likely to be 1. the winner of No. 20 Tulane vs No. 24 North Texas for the American conference championship 2. James Madison if they handle business against Troy.
With the drama surrounding the bottom portion of the playoff bracket, things are all clear at the top as No. 1 Ohio State takes on No. 2 Indiana for the Big 10 Championship. The winner of that game will become the top seed in the CFP and receive the first of four automatic spots in the quarterfinals.
The two conferences with the biggest wildcard scenarios are the Big 12 and the SEC, with the lower ranked teams in the playoff with wins (No. 11 BYU and No. 9 Alabama). With losses, both are effectively out in BYU’s case, while Bama could stick as the 11 seed if they keep the game close and other games fall their way. Both No. 3 Georgia and No. 4 Texas Tech should be in even if they don’t finish the season as conference champs.
It’s going to be a super fun birthday for me on Saturday with all these games going on throughout the day. I’ll be watching, very heavily intoxicated.
With that being said, my final standings are below. I posted my picks every week starting week 2 and finished with a winning record of 333-319-10 overall (that’s a lot of picks, damn!) while a huge week 14 in the SuperContest put me back above .500, at 47-46. The reverse almost happened in my Big 12 picks, with a horrid 2-6 finish to the season nearly putting me below the line. But alas, 47-46-2.
What a fun season picking all these games. Hopefully those of you who read this enjoyed my insights and now you know that I (kind of) know ball. College football picks are done for the season, time to enjoy the still new, but very beautiful CFP.
For the college SuperContest, you pick any 7 games you want. Extremely simple. Purely for my own entertainment, I’m going to pick every single game on the card with a heavy emphasis on tracking my Big 12 picks since I’ve established myself as a Big 12 guy.
I will be posting my NFL picks prior to the TNF game each week, and the college picks will come out on Fridays unless there’s a Thursday game on the card and sometimes I’ll just skip Thursday honestly.
Another reminder, these are not bets I will be placing myself. I do this purely for fun.
