THE SUNFLOWER SHOWDOWN
I probably have one of the most unique takes on this rivalry due to my involvement, or lack there of, as I was growing up. I don’t remember the games or even the players. Usually, if you’re from Kansas, you have one choice: KU or K-State.
But I didn’t have this Kansas dilemma when I was a kid. I was an Oklahoma fan. Adrian Peterson was God at my dad’s house. Honestly, for good reason, his college highlight tape was insane. I still hope they succeed even though they left the Big 12 for the SEC.
When it was time to pick a college to attend, there were only two FBS programs in the state. I wanted a traditional college experience, and boy did I get one. From sneaking in various meats, cheeses and beverages into Bill Snyder Family Stadium to getting late night Pepperjax in Aggieville. There are so many things to love about Manhattan, Kansas. Varsity donuts and the late night grilled cheese Mac & cheese at the food truck. Many late nights inside Bramlage Coliseum working basketball games, eating as much free Domino’s as we could stomach. Which is way less than you might think.
I don’t hate KU the way some people do. I used to when I was a kid because my step dad liked them. LOL great little kid logic. I was grounded in 2003 for cheering too hard (I was probably being an obnoxious fuck) for Carmelo Anthony in the Final Four. Before he was even drafted to the Nuggets.
Anyway, I actually really like Lawrence and spent a ton of time there in college. Tons of my friends went there, and at one point I was driving 90 minutes to KU on Wednesday nights just to go get $1 vodka Red Bulls and make questionable decisions. My girlfriend went to KU. I’m so glad she didn’t see me in The Hawk; she’d be appalled.
Some of my fondest college memories were visiting friends at KU. But let’s leave it at that. When it comes to football, I made a vow when I started working in athletics that whoever paid me became my favorite team. K-State paid me as a student worker, so I am loyal to the purple Wildcats. More than Oklahoma. More than Kent State even. I’m a Wildcat through and through.
And it’s EMAW forever.
queues up Mr. Brightside
Fuck KU.

Game of the Week: Buffalo Bills at Las Vegas Raiders — The game of the week is kicking off in under an hour in Denver, but this game really means something in the AFC Playoff picture. The Bill are fresh off an overtime win against this year’s super team, the Los Angeles Rams. They should’ve lost. They didn’t and they sit 4-1 chasing the Kansas City Chiefs for home field advantage. After the Raiders started 3-0, they’ve lost two straight. This means there’s a chance Vegas can get even with the Bills at 4-2 AND hold the playoff tiebreaker. They could also end up 3-3 down two games to Josh Allen and Buffalo. The point is, this game could have a significant impact on the playoffs and more importantly my 95% Chiefs viewership.
