The first NFL RedZone lineup of the 2026 season was incredible. We saw former MVP Josh Allen late game heroics and we got overtime in Detroit after the Saints stormed back in the 4th quarter. The Bears nearly scored 60 points and I think I was so wrong about Cam Ward. He looked terrible and the Titans are nowhere near being a competitive football team. The AFC North saw the Ravens, Bengals and Steelers all get week 1 wins, and the 49ers look like one of the best teams in the NFL after dominating in Australia Thursday night. Let the week 1 overreactions begin!

My number one overreaction is that football is stupid (unless the Broncos win tonight) and I don’t even know why I like it so much. Deep sigh, regroup breath… okay I”m good. I stand by my process, but I got absolutely shredded in Week 1. I went 0-5 in the NFL Super Contest. The only game that didn’t have some fuck shit go down for me to lose was the Titans, who I mentioned above. They just got their teeth kicked in by the Jets. The Falcons (+3.5) missed two field goals and lost by 7. The Dolphins (+3.5) missed a field goal themselves but Malik Willis turned the ball over twice in an ugly game. The Eagles (-4.5) were up the entire game but allowed a late touchdown with under one minute left, stopped the two-point conversion and won by 2. Brutal. But not nearly as brutal as Packers (+1.5) who were up by 12 in Minnesota before a purple avalanche fell down on Jordan Love. The Packers were outscored 29-0 over the final 18 minutes of the game.

You know, honestly you guys might want to fade me at this point. I’m thankful my DraftKings account is suspended because my god. We’ll find out in week 2 whether or not I have the Super Contest yips or I just had a nasty case of the week 1 fuck shit virus. Bounce back week next week, stay tuned on Thursday 🫡

I watched this true crime documentary called Death of a Pastor’s Wife with my girlfriend. It was absolutely crazy. This pastor had essentially full control over his entire segregation and the community. And he was the worst to his wife. He totally used his power over her and the church to manipulate and abuse her. It was extremely sad. Why am I thinking about this super sad show? I’ve just been thinking about the concept of power a lot lately. Did you hear that AI is going to take over? AH! More sad stuff 😭 No but really, that seems like something we want the good guys, if there are any, to have power over. So how does one gain power? Get the newest tech? The concept of power is so bizarre because the range of what you can have power over is wider than the human brain can imagine. Whether it’s a potential global AI takeover or this silly little game of football, we have a power structure.

Are the Seahawks the ones in power in the NFL? I’d say yes, coming off a Super Bowl and a week 1 win with their dominant defense. They clearly have an advantage over the league on that side of the ball. In order to obtain the power Seattle has, you have to work your ass off. Teams work their ass off all summer leading up to the season. Then they work their ass off the next week preparing for their opponent. They survive and endure all the injuries that come with a 6-month season. This weekend is just the veryyyy tip of the iceberg on this NFL season!

The games count now, so WE MUST RANK THE TEAMS! Maybe one week I’ll do a “which NFL team am I?” Buzzfeed-esque article. Since 14 teams make the playoffs (7 in each conference), I was thinking about doing the top 14. But that seems weird so let’s do an even 15 each week. Not every team deserves to be ranked.

The Kansas State Wildcats look real good to start the 2026 season after a 2-0 start and two dominant performances. If what we have seen from Texas Tech so far continues (& we’ll find out Friday night vs Houston) then K-State could have a legit shot at playing in the Big 12 title game. There were two plays I think Avery Johnson and Collin Klein both want back from the Cats game against Washington State. Both plays ended in interceptions by Wazzu safety Jaylen Thomas, the last one for a pick six as time expired in the first half and were the only Cougars points.

The major story across college football came out of Austin, where Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns stormed back from 20 down in the 4th quarter to beat #1 Ohio State. Running back Hollywood Smothers scored the final two touchdowns for UT, capped off by the game winner with just 25 seconds left. Deservedly so, the Longhorns are the new number one in the AP poll. They’ll sit #2 for me, as Georgia has done nothing to lose their spot.

The other major game of the weekend was Oregon and Oklahoma State, where the Cowboys knocked off the Ducks, 39-31. As an NFL Draft guy, this game had two top QBs going toe-to-toe with Drew Mestemaker showcasing his elite talents. The play where he hurdled a defender to score a TD will play at the end of his college career. On the losing side, Oregon QB Dante Moore has looked sluggish to start the season. He doesn’t look confident, and most importantly they already have one loss. It’s not a death sentence for the Ducks, but Moore will need to be significantly better to improve his draft stock and lead Oregon to the College Football Playoff.
