REACTION TO THE ACTION

I just have to commend the Big 12, especially BYU. Hosting a team like Notre Dame and coming back late to earn one of the biggest wins in program history. The Mormons could be the religion that goes to heaven. We’ll never know. I used to hate the fact that BYU QB Bear Bachmeier wears number 47. It’s not a typical QB number, and for those who don’t know there used to be rules in the NFL that all QBs were between 1-19. Those restrictions have since been listed. I don’t think any QBs in the NFL right now are outside of the 1-19 range. It’s extremely rare. But when you see #47 for the Cougars coming at you, get out of the damn way.

BYU QB Bear Bachmeier vs Notre Dame

The Big 12 is more than just BYU. Houston made a statement with a win over Oklahoma State. They lost earlier in the season to Texas Tech, who remains undefeated. Utah narrowly escaped Colorado to stay tied with BYU and Tech atop the conference. In what could be the last year of conference championship games, this is going to be a classic.

The SEC was where most of the wackiness happened yet again with my #1 team, Georgia, losing to Auburn. QB Gunnar Stockton wasn’t good in the game, throwing two interceptions and fumbling to set up Auburn‘s game-winning field goal. It’s a fight every week but these are the games you have to win if you’re Georgia. Same thing can be said about Texas. You have a defeated Florida team that were destroyed in their previous two losses and you get bullied AT HOME. I’ve been saying it, but we can push Arch Manning to the 2028 NFL Draft.

The biggest surprise of the weekend was that Missouri didn’t keep the game close with Ole Miss at all. They got shit pumped. It was a beatdown from start to finish. A lot of twitter kings who aren’t patient with their rankings threw around Missouri QB Austin Simmons as high as QB1 in the 2027 class. Ridiculous.

By the way, this was my girlfriend (a KU fan) to me after I had Simmons and Missouri as a Faithful as opposed to a Traitor:

Simmons is NOT a first round type of QB, and it showed on the road in Oxford. On the flip side, Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss is the real deal and is firmly in first round conversations. He very well could be the best 2027 QB at this point. His arm talent is among the best in the country, and he stays composed in big moments.

I still believe Miami QB Darian Mensah has a chance to be the top rated at the position when its all said and done. The arm strength is limited, but the efficiency and deep ball accuracy are impressive traits. With the Hurricanes sitting at number one, they will be a target in the ACC. When they play Notre Dame on November 7, it will be must-watch television.

Not to bury the lead here, but the Kansas State Wildcats beat the Kansas Jayhawks for the 18th consecutive time on Saturday. It was an ugly game by most accounts, but K-State QB Avery Johnson graded as the 8th-best QB in college football over the weekend. He didn’t turn the ball over and rushed for over 100 yards, showcasing his electric game changing speed.

There’s so much more to get into on the NFL front, but I’ll hold until after this Monday Night Football game between the Commanders and 49ers.

Is Brock Purdy the MVP right now?

From Mr. Irrelevant (last pick in the draft) to league MVP would be one of the craziest career arcs we’ve ever seen from any position, let alone quarterback.

POST WEEK 7 CFB TOP 25

It was another 4-3 week in the Super Contest. I seem to be leveling out, but I’ll take one-over compared to one-under every week.

While we’re here, let’s talk about the 2027 NFL Draft and which college players vaulted themselves up draft boards at the midway point in the season.

⬆ Indiana WR Charlie Becker — I’ll be the first to admit, I was extremely skeptical on Becker coming into this season from a draft perspective. At least in 2027. I had no doubt he’d be a top 50 guy in 2028. With changes to NIL, I pretty much assume there will be very few early declares. But Becker is a different cat. You saw it in flashes during Indiana’s playoff run last year. After catching nine passes for 165 yards against Ohio State, Becker has cemented himself as a top 25 player in the 2027 NFL Draft. Feels a bit close-minded but to me his best player comparison is Jordy Nelson. And I think Becker is even more explosive.

⬆ BYU LB Cade Uluave — 9 total tackles and dominated the game in BYU’s win over Notre Dame. The Utah native returned home after spending three years at California where he amassed 235 total tackles, nine passes defensed and 6.0 sacks. Listed at 6’1, 230 pounds, Uluave is likely a Day 3 guy. But performances like this against top competition go a long way.

⬆ Tennessee RB DeSean Bishop — I’m sitting there watching this dude go off against Alabama, and all I can see is Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jaylen Warren. Both RBs are short, compact, rough and rugged. They attack space moving forward and fight for extra yards. Bishop is a prospect I’d consider in the middle of Day 3. Warren ended up undrafted but I think Bishop’s SEC pedigree is worth of pushing him up draft boards.

⬇ South Carolina WR Nyck Harbor — Being 6’5 and running freakishly fast can only get you so far. You can only be on Bruce Feldman’s freaks list so many times. I understand he’s a physically talented player and that really is half the battle. But I’ve seen nothing to give me hope that Harbor can play receiver in the NFL. He’s never had more than 30 receptions in a single season and currently sits with just 17 halfway through his senior season. Disappointing to say the least for Harbor and the 3-3 Gamecocks.

⬇ Texas Tech DT Mateen Ibirogba — Despite already matching his sack total from last season at Wake Forest, I was expecting an even bigger leap based on some of the plays I saw on film. I still think he can get there, but he’s outside the top 100 right now for me. I would’ve had him closer to top 50 at the beginning of the season. I want to see more production.

HM: Arizona, Texas, Missouri, Florida, Mississippi State, North Dakota State

Game of the Week: Akron at Kent State, Saturday 10/24 — The freaking Wagon Wheel. One of the most fun rivalries in college football and one I hold extremely near my heart. I spent 4 years in the Kent State athletic department. I traveled with the football team for part of my time there, culminating to an appearance in the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl. The Golden Flashes earned their one and only bowl game in program history over none other than Jordan Love and Utah State. We beat TSDTR (that school down the road) during that season.

Me, after Kent State won the Wagon Wheel in 2019 (I had hair! LOL)

Game of the Week 2: No. 14 Houston at No. 11 Utah, Saturday 10/24 — Easily the biggest matchup in the Big 12 so far this season. With Houston’s only loss coming at the hands of undefeated Texas Tech, the Cougars are desperate to keep their playoff hopes alive. For Utah, they have plenty to work on after barely coming back to beat a very poor Colorado team. It feels like the Big 12 is trending toward a BYU-Texas Tech rematch from last year, but if either team wants to emerge as a threat they’ll first need to win this game.

Game of the Week 3: No. 16 LSU at Auburn, Saturday 10/24 — Fresh off a huge win over my number one team in the country, Auburn has a chance to become the superior tiger with a win over LSU. Lane Kiffin and his team are focused back in after a loss two weeks ago to Kentucky left the team searching for answers. The Tigers bounced back nicely with a dominant win over Mississippi State, so both teams in this game have significant momentum.

FOR THE GIRLS: MADISON BEER

One time, my brother got me the Dr. Squatch and Justin Herbert collab soap for my birthday.

Great gift.

Great man.

Great QB.

Terrible luck.

He’s having a god awful run in Los Angeles. The Chargers are an absolute trainwreck, falling to 0-6 on the season. This is a team I thought could make the playoffs, but they’ve been hit by the injury bug and whatever the hell Adam Gase is doing within that offense. I hate watching them. Every other play there’s a different running back on the field. It’s a terrible offense with an even worse offensive line. Herbert is getting killed. Four of his top five wide receivers are out or Ladd McConkey, who leaves every game with an injury.

So who is to blame for these struggles? Is it new head coach Jim Harbaugh? Harbaugh’s main accomplishment of his career came in part because members of his staff were caught cheating. His 2023 season at Michigan is largely in question. I don’t take him that seriously as a coach. And he hired the golden boy, Mike McDaniel, to run the offense. Is this McDaniel’s fault? He was supposed to be the perfect pairing for Herbert. Instead, he came in and immediately altered how Herbert receives snaps from shotgun which changes his entire footwork. It’s the offensive coordinator’s job to match the talent within the system. Right now, the Chargers lack talent. Not talent on the field. They have multiple talented running backs and tight ends. But they don’t have the talent in the coaching room to put the players in a winning position.

Why would you hurt this man? He’s just a normal guy (who happens to be the 6’6 star quarterback of the LA football team) that fell in love with a girl.

Good for Herbert, man. I know what that feels like. I found myself sitting on the couch like this Sunday morning with my girlfriend.

Now to all the guys reading this.

Would you ruin your entire career if it meant you got to be in love the way that Justin Herbert loves Madison Beer?

The answer better be yes.
