I didn’t realize there was a game last night until it was too late, but let’s highlight the elite RB battle between NC State’s Hollywood Smothers and Wake Forest’s Demond Claiborne. Smothers got the better of Claiborne in the battle, rushing for 164 yards in the 34-24 win. The Wolfpack defense was great in the second half, shutting out the Demon Deacons and holding Claiborne to just 68 yards on 20 touches.
Now for the week 3 college football slate, we can focus on some key matchups but this doesn’t need to be a long intro. K-State plays at Arizona tonight in a non-conference matchup. Legacy game for QB Avery Johnson after a 1-2 start with a near-loss at home to North Dakota followed by an actual real loss at home to Army as 17-point favorites. The same Army team that lost to Tarleton State a week prior. It’s glum in Manhattan, Kansas right now. Good news is, 5-star TE Linkon Cure could make his debut tonight.
The format is similar to the NFL SuperContest which I posted my picks earlier this week. For college, you pick any 7 games you want. Extremely simple. Purely for my own entertainment, I’m going to pick every single game on the card with a heavy emphasis on tracking my Big 12 picks since I’ve established myself as a Big 12 guy.
I will be posting my NFL picks prior to the TNF game each week, and the college picks will come out on Fridays.
Another reminder, these are not bets I will be placing myself. I do this for the fun of being right.
The SuperContest Picks & Why:(Kansas State +1 at Arizona) Avery Johnson legacy game. If you’re a K-State fan this seems like a crossroads. Former K-State and current Pittsburgh Steelers QB Will Howard led Ohio State to a National Championship. Cats are 1-2.(New Mexico +15.5 at UCLA)Two Friday night games which will be super rare. New Mexico’s run game got going last week with former Montana State RB Scottre Humphrey who rushed for more than 1,300 yards and 16 TDs last season.(Oregon -27.5 at Northwestern)I’m genuinely afraid for what Oregon could do to Northwestern on Saturday. The Ducks are a wagon. QB Dante Moore, WR Dakorien Moore, and their five-headed RB room rolls through Evanston with ease. (Illinois -27.5 vs Western Michigan)I’m taking Illinois for the second straight week. I love QB Luke Altmyer‘s ability to play the position and stay within the offense. He’s great on play action and has the ability to make every throw.(Missouri -26.5 vs Louisiana)After I picked KU last week, who inexplicably blew another 4Q lead, against the Tigers, I have learned my lesson. QB Beau Pribula threw for 334 yards and three touchdowns against the Jayhawks. (Tulane -1 vs Duke)I’m going against the Blue Devils for the second straight week, and it’s because of Tulane’s defensive line. DT Santana Hopper is a versatile defender with an elite get off that terrorizes opposing guards.(Arizona State -15.5 vs Texas State)I think the Sun Devils bounce back after a difficult week in Starkville, Mississippi. QB Sam Leavitt is a potential first round pick in 2027, and he’s throwing to my top ranked WR Jordyn Tyson.
